The Grains of Truth Behind the Law of Attraction
Is there a more scientific explanation for the self improvement gained through the "Law of Attraction" which is so widely spread these days? And does it in fact require similar amounts of belief but in ones self rather than the universe?
So the Law of Attraction has been making its way around social media and selling a great number of books for some blessed individuals who asked the universe for riches and they came back in the form of book sales. I know because I have read a reasonable cross section of them as I dug myself out of a personal black hole and spend a reasonable sum of money on them also! It is amazingly easy to relieve desperate people of money in return for a guaranteed solution! Sadly I doubt my opinions will net me any great riches but I wanted to proffer a more scientific viewpoint from me as an engineer rather than a spiritualist.
The basis of the Law of Attraction is that if you change your mindset to that of already having succeeded in your goal, whether that be money, job, love or whatever, the universe will deliver it to you. If you work on the premise of need or want, this actually negates the message to the universe and you will in fact never get what you want. So believe you are already a millionaire and you will guaranteed become one. Except if your faith in the universe isn't strong enough or you don't believe enough, in which case you are done for and it won't work.
As with all aspects of life (and also religion) which require belief, there are some who turn to it in desperate times as a last resort, some who embrace it fully and take it way beyond what is healthy in day to day life and those who engage in it as a set of guidelines for living a good and prosperous life. I have witnessed all of these sides of the Law and spirituality and it is this cross section which has driven me to seek a clearer understanding of whats going on here. I should caveat this by saying that this is my opinion and of course I don't want to force it upon anyone, merely offer an alternative view and one which may ring true with those of us with a more practical standpoint.
So to cut to the chase:-
When you buy a new handbag, car, pair of shoes, jacket or piece of jewellery, have you ever noticed how you see them everywhere all of a sudden? You agonised over the exact one you wanted, you were sure you were the only one who had chosen that exact one and bingo, here are a bunch of other people all have the same one!
The average human brain is processing millions of pieces of information a second from all the senses, constantly feeding the machine. As we now know, you would need a super computer to keep up with the level of processing which the brain does effortlessly. 99% of this processing is happening in the subconscious so you are only aware of it when there is a real need or connection in your conscious brain for you to know about it. This means there is a huge amount of filtering going on. The filter is the bit I am interested in.
By way of example, as you cruise at 70mph down the motorway, the majority of the scenery is flashing by. Hour after hour, grass, trees and other cars zip past un-noticed. Then suddenly, "Was that a Caladium plant? I have one just like that in my front garden. Nice this time of year... " So out of the millions of leafy plants you didn't notice, there was one you did. The filter picked it out and your conscious mind was notified because you had a connection to it.
So the simple premise here is that if you can persuade the filter that you are in fact interested in something new, something which has been missing in your life all this time, it will now notify you when that thing or the opportunity to get a step closer to that thing, is right next to you when you would otherwise have been oblivious and moved swiftly on. Lets take the need for money as the obvious option. The majority of billionaires are not smarter or better equipped as human beings than you or I, they just seemed to strike it lucky, get into the market at the right time or know the right people when it mattered. But perhaps its simpler than that. They are all ambitious. They all had no doubt they would be billionaires, and as a result they had already conditioned and programmed their filter and so were much more alert to the scenarios and people around them which would eventually lead them to their ultimate success.
Its that simple. And almost scientific. And still requires you to believe and to meditate to change your deeper subconscious filter. But if you do, suddenly all these situations, people and scenarios will start to be much more prevalent in your life and you can then choose to make what you will of them rather than the constant spiral of "why do I never catch a break!" The fact is that they were always there, you just never noticed them.
The route to changing the filter? Well on that part I genuinely agree with the Law of Attraction. You have to force the connections in your conscious brain to be made.
"I am a billionaire, I have a yacht, its beautiful to sail on here in the summer with the wind at my back and the noise of the bow cutting through the water."
If I genuinely believe that and live it every day, the filter sees you have that connection in your conscious brain and starts to flag up situations which are relevant to your wealth (and your yacht) as you pass through your life. The secret is to then actually act on the flags as they pop up but that is definitely subject matter for yet another self help book...
I am just trying to make the world a tiny bit better if I can.
I would love to hear from you and your viewpoints on this, good or bad, and especially if you have any experience of this, good or bad.
I wish you all prosperity and success!
